Emergency Medicine Ultrasound

EMUS (Emergency Medicine Ultrasound) by Complete POCUS Training is a robust, hybrid-learning program designed to meet and exceed the updated 2021 RCEM Core Ultrasound Competencies. This course now includes training in advanced techniques such as the Fascia Iliaca Compartment Block and the Rapid Ultrasound in Shock (RUSH) protocol, which complement traditional Emergency Medicine ultrasound skills: e-FAST (extended Focused Assessment with Sonography in Trauma), abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) assessment, focused echocardiography in life support (ELS), and vascular access.

Following recent trends in remote learning, accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic, our course structure combines flexible, self-paced online learning with focused, hands-on practical sessions. The theory is delivered through pre-recorded lectures, allowing participants to build a strong foundation before joining an intensive, face-to-face half-day workshop. These in-person sessions involve scanning on live models, high-fidelity phantoms, and simulated clinical scenarios.

Our ‘4 to 1’ student-to-instructor ratio ensures that each participant receives ample hands-on scanning time with personal guidance on both hand-held ultrasound devices and advanced portable machines. This setup maximises individualised learning, covering key RCEM curriculum requirements like peripheral and central vein cannulation and fascia iliaca block techniques.

Led by experienced Emergency Medicine consultants & other healthcare professionals, the EMUS Complete POCUS Training Course equips our delegates with the skills and confidence to incorporate POCUS into emergency and critical care, ultimately enhancing patient outcomes with timely and effective bedside ultrasound applications.
